Acker Newsflash Press Release
Oct 2016 NYC Press Release

New York City, NY – October 17, 2016 – A festive Fall Friday night in Manhattan was led by an unprecedented 74 bottle Superlot of 2005 Burgundy that sold for $92,625, supported by two of Europe’s Best Actors and Actresses, a twelve bottle case of 1991 DRC La Tache that achieved $49,400 and six magnums of 1985 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Montfortino Riserva selling for $34,580. Dueling twelve bottle cases of 1995 and 1993 Georges Roumier Bonnes Mares were aggressively sought and bought at $32,110 and $29,140 respectively, as was a 2001 DRC Assortment that also sold for $32,110.  Interest in Bordeaux continued to surge, led by the 2000 vintage and Chateaux Lafite and Mouton Rothschild, with full cases selling for $17,290 and $19,760 accordingly.

While the Top Lots were all European, California was one of the stars of the evening, which was true from the evening’s very first collection, an impressive and extensive collection of Harlan Estate amongst other California superstars. Collectors snapped up all the Harlan they could get, along with classic vintages of Dominus, Colgin, Joseph Phelps, Mondavi, Abreu, Dalla Valle, Marcassin, Scarecrow, Shafer Peter Michael and Dunn throughout the night, reinforcing the demand for the great names of California. Other producers showing significant interest from the European side of things included La Mission Haut Brion, Petrus, Latour, Haut Brion, Margaux, Raveneau, Ramonet, Leflaive, Roulot, Coche-Dury, Chave, Rayas, Giacosa, Giacomo Conterno, Mascarello, Sandrone, Ornellaia, Lopez de Heredia, La Rioja Alta, and Paternina.

“The weather was brisk, and so was the action on the sales floor.  Big lots got big prices all night long,” said Acker Merrall Chairman and CEO John Kapon.  “The market continues to flex its muscles this Fall, and next up we’re off to the great city of Hong Kong with two live auctions over the next month, on October 19th and November 5th.  Join us in person or via our new web platform, including mobile, at www.ackerwines.com.  October saw more action online than ever before, check it out for yourself!”
